How to make CannaButter

How to Properly Make Marijuana Butter AKA Bud Butter

As mentioned earlier cooking with weed requires the breakdown of THC in a fat before consumption to be effective.  The amount of marijuana used will vary by potency and desired effect.  It is recommended that you use medium grade cannabis for this easy recipe below for making butter or this butter will be very expensive.

  • Ingredients
  1. 1 lb of salted butter *note: It is important not to use margarine for this process
  2. 1/2 ounce of marijuana broken up finely in a grinder
  • Cooking Process Short Way (less effective)
    1. Get a sauce pan and melt the butter until it begins to simmer
    2. Add the finely ground marijuana into the simmering butter for about 30 min. stirring occasionally
    3. After about 45 minutes to an hour (the longer the better) the butter should have turned green from the weed, turn off burner.
    4. Pour your marijuana butter mix through a strainer to remove all the pieces of marijuana left in the butter.
    5. Stick the butter in the fridge until it becomes solid.
    6. After refrigerating for a few hours the butter will be done and solidified on top, the liquid underneath is waste water and can be discarded.
  • Cooking Process Long Way (Most effective extraction)
    1. This process requires a large pot (preferably the same size as the burner for an even cook) and a small pot.
    2.  Fill the larger pot full of clean water and place the small pot inside the large one.
    3. Turn the burner on low/medium setting until the water in the large pot begins to boil.
    4. Place the butter in the small pot that is inside of the big pot.
    5. When the butter begins to melt add the finely ground marijuana.
    6. Leave the burner on for 2-3 hours or longer.
    7. Pour the butter through a strainer or coffee filter removing stems and leftover marijuana.
    8. Refrigerate the butter and dont worry about the small pieces of marijuana strained out as it is now THC free.
    9. After refrigerating for a few hours the butter will be done and solidified on top, the liquid underneath is waste water and can be discarded.
